Flood
So maybe this blog can be a release. God knows I need it. My day Sunday Monday ended with a three-hour drive home, only to discover my air conditioner is broken. Then, when I wake up, my computer is broken. And to top off that 24 hours, my apartment flooded.
And I know this may just seem like a string of unfortunate events, but it really, really got me down. The flooding of my apartment was just so taxing - mentally and physically. It's like this horrible incident occurred... and I'm trying to deal with it alone. I have friends coming over asking if I'm okay, and that's fine.
But I'm still dealing with it alone. Many care on a superficial level, but few insist on coming over to make sure you're okay emotionally, even when you have a stone exterior. I've always had a problem letting people in, but I never realized how much I push people away too. I only know how to deal with problems one way -- me fixing them with no help from anybody else. Expecting nothing has worked in the past because then I won't be disappointed. But, sometimes, you have to let people in... otherwise there will be nobody left.

Floods are absolutely awful. All the destruction and trauma of your name brand disasters, but none of the public recognition (unless structures are actually leveled).
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear a fellow Morgantonian (?) got the noah treatment. Do you need a shop vac, or are you past the point that one would be helpful? Post if you need one, and i can drop it off a loaner at some safe, public location (not an ax murderer, i swear). I became aware of your blog/flood after reading a post by chris slater about his tour of the DA.
As for the second part of your post.....That's me all over - but i go the extra-crazy distance by resenting people for not helping/whatever while i simultaneously do my best to ensure that they can't. Genius!

Thanks for your concern. =] Everything is mostly back to order. I'm lucky I didn't have any of my personal belongings destroyed. It was just inconvenient and had me displaced for a few days. It could've been a lot worse, so I'm lucky.

ReplyDeleteOh cool - glad to hear it :). Watch out for mold though....In spite of it's frequently vile smell, hitting the walls/under the carpets with disinfectant lysol would be a good idea. Mold is incredibly awful once it gets into the structure of your place, and some forms can propagate fast enough that even short term renters need be wary.

They actually had to rip up my carpet throughout the whole apartment, which was the inconvenient part. Then, they installed new carpet. So on the plus side, I have all new carpet!
ReplyDeleteHowever, it actually seeped out into the hallway (there was a puddle in front of my door), and they didn't replace the carpet out there, so the smell was horrendous. But, it's slowly getting better too. =]
And, I think neurotic people are the most fun people. Just not the ax murderers. haha.
