Charleston Edition: French Quarter Restaurant at Mardi Gras Casino & Hotel

By Candace Nelson - 10:00 AM

French Quarter
Mardi Gras Casino & Hotel often participates in food events, like Taste of All. So, it's always been in my peripheral, but never a direct destination. The casino is home to five different restaurants:

  • The French Quarter Restaurant & Bar: The premier Charleston restaurant - serving succulent steaks, seafood, cocktails, wine and champagne
  • The Grill at First Turn: The only restaurant where you can watch and wager on both live and simulcast racing events
  • The Bayou Buffet: Bring your appetite for this "All-You-Can-Eat" extravaganza, featuring a homemade beignet station
  • Quick Bites: For the best way to appease your hunger pangs in between hands, try Café Orleans or Crescent City
I recently went to The French Quarter Restaurant & Bar, and it was a pretty lovely experience. The restaurant is oddly open right to the rest of the casino and not lodged away in its own compartment. But, that was also kinda cool to see everything going on around us.

French QuarterFirst up: Bread. Nothing too remarkable here, but it was warm.

French QuarterNext was my entree: Pork Tenderloin - pork medallions, apricot and cherry mustarda and risotto. It was super dark inside, so it's tough to make out here, but there were a few tenderloins. I do think they could be a bit more tender, but I liked the savory and sweet sauce overall. And, there was a ton of risotto. Like, so, so much. I also like my risotto to sit up just a bit more, but the flavor was there.

French QuarterWe also got a side of macaroni and cheese because, hi, I'm 12. I think I spent the majority of my time digging my fork into this cheesy bed of pasta rather than my entree. It was a creamy cheese sauce with more melted cheese on top, and it was just a giant marriage of all the cheeses, and it was beautiful.

French QuarterTo finish it off, we had these little chocolate mints.

French QuarterOverall, it was a good meal. And, the experience was even better.
