I went to Cafe Crema when it was located on the West Side of Charleston, but it moved to Dunbar and expanded some of its offerings.
It's cute!
Cafe Crema was the perfect spot to get some work done, so I started off with a drink. They were advertising a peanut butter & jelly frappuccino, and that sounded fun.
And for some lunch, I ordered the Big Dipper, which is not something I'd typically go for. It had cheddar and feta cheese, ham, salami, black olives on wheat bread with 1000 island dipping sauce.
First, the drink really did taste like peanut butter - not heavy on the jelly. But definitely nutty.
And this sandwich has become one of my all-time favorites! I'll be getting it again and again.
I'm about out of Tudor's Biscuit Worlds in the Kanawha Valley after this most recent trip to the Dunbar location.
'
My go-to is a sausage biscuit (+ grape jelly), plus chocolate milk. On this day, I went crazy and added tater rounds.
What's your favorite biscuit?
When looking for a new place to get some grub, Dunbar's The Bucket stood out to me because, wait for it: deep. fried. pepperoni. rolls. That was a quick way for it to rise to the top of our list.
Dawn and I headed here (after a bit of traffic), and were delighted with the large, wall-wide windows that let tons of beautiful light in. There is a stage and lots of tables in the center.
The menu in person is fairly small, but there are actually a lot more options online - including the deep-fried pepperoni rolls.
But there is a lot of fun appetizers - mac & cheese bites, nachos, fried pickles, etc.
“The Bucket” was formed in 2017 to be a place where anyone could visit and enjoy a little West Virginia hospitality, some good entertainment, tasty food and a great atmosphere! You should expect to enjoy the patio area in the summertime and the outside bar area as well in the winter. The inside has a fantastic and modern LED backlit bar top with color change and an amazing cold selection of cold beer and local brews “we have the coldest around”. We invite you to come and sit for a spell and have some great food, cold drinks and live music. You want family friendly? The bucket is family friendly, bring the kids and watch the game….. We don’t turn the kids away until after 9 on Friday and Saturday (cause the adults have to have a little fun time occasionally). If you want to know where its happening at “its at the bucket” 4030 Washington St. West Dunbar WV 25312. Yall come and enjoy!!! (ABOUT)

Have you been?
Ridge View BBQ runs the circuit of fairs and festivals in the area, and I had a little sampling of a sandwich at one some time ago. But I hadn't had the chance to visit the actual Dunbar BBQ restaurant until recently.
The first good sign was that this place was PACKED. Nearly all the spots in the parking lot were taken up. And, once I walked inside, there was a hefty line awaiting me. That's OK - more time to check out the menu. Pulled pork sandwich? Brisket? Ribs?
I went with the pulled pork sandwich platter, with a corn muffin, potato salad and macaroni & cheese. Good lord do I love Southern food. Everything is just created to hit those comfort zone portions of my brain and make me happy. The pork was plentiful and perfect with a nice little tangy BBQ sauce. The mac? Super cheesy. And the potato salad was just beyond creamy.
Oh, and I may or may not have also ordered a brownie. I didn't realize it had chocolate chips in it (not my fav), but the brownie itself was pretty good. I think Charleston has quite a few BBQ places at this point that are doing some really good things, and I'd count Ridge View BBQ among them.
