Parkersburg Edition: J.P. Henry's Restaurant

By Candace Nelson - 10:00 AM

JP Henry'sAfter our wine tour, we stopped in Parkersburg for dinner at J.P. Henry's Restaurant. J.P. Henry's was recently named to the 101 Unique Places to Dine in WV list, which quickly moved the sports bar up to the top of my want-to-try list.

The dining area is full of TVs - more than 60 - and lots of team memorabilia from WVU, Marshall, Ohio and Ohio State. Plus pool tables!

JP Henry'sThe menu features items like burgers, steaks, pasta, fish, ribs and salads. Because the menu listed the burgers as "legendary" and flame-grilled, certified black angus USDA choice beef, it sounded like a winner. I got the classic gourmet gourmet burger, which is topped with fresh onion, shredded lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo, and I got it with cheddar cheese. This was a good burger. They didn't skimp between the buttered and grilled bread, the thick patty, plenty of onion and pickles. Good flavor, and not over-cooked.

The service needed some work. My glass ran completely out twice, and that's a big pet peeve of mine. Plus I had to actually flag down the waitress to fill the glass the second time. And to get ketchup. And then to get a second bottle of ketchup because the first was empty.

Overall, though, it would be a solid place to watch a game and get your belly full.
