I may have restaurant hopped a bit in Oak Hill ... there were a few on my 101 Most Unique Places to Dine in WV list in this town, and I wanted to be super efficient. Cafe One Ten was next on the list.
And I preface this post with that because now it may make sense why I got macaroni and cheese, and a piece of peanut butter pie.
Yep, I walked up to the counter and placed an order for macaroni and cheese and a piece of peanut butter pie. It was met with some funny faces, but you know what? I'm an adult. And there are very few perks of being an adult. But ordering whatever I damn well please is one of them. Give me my mac and pie.
They obliged. My macaroni and cheese came out first, and wow. It is really, really good. It's made with smoked gouda cheese, so it really has a nice smokey flavor, and the cavatappi noodles have those cheese trap grooves that make every bite cheesy deliciousness.
The peanut butter pie was delicious. I first requested caramel pie, but they were out. The peanut butter pie was still a great option, though. It was light, fluffy, so decadent. Really, if I could order just macaroni and cheese and pie every day for lunch, I would do it.
Delfino's has a drive-up window, and it also has a dining room. There are a lot of little decorations all over the place - really a homey, small town restaurant feel.
I ordered a personal pizza with mushrooms and a strawberry shake. I felt like I needed both pizza and ice cream to fulfill the mission (you know, Delfino's Pizza AND Ice Cream).
The pizza was not my favorite. I feel like I've been saying this a lot lately, but the crust just wasn't crispy at all. Like, not even a little bit. I had a hard time pulling my piece of pizza up in one piece. Not ideal. Good bit of mushrooms and cheese, though.
However, one of the best strawberry shakes ever. Absolutely delicious. And a cherry on top! Yass.
Bridge Brew Works just recently opened its taproom. Previously, it was a brewery only, and it was one of the only ones in the state to not offer tastings. But, rejoice!
It's currently open Fridays and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
I got a small growler of the Bourbon Barrel - which is awesome. It's aged in Smooth Ambler barrels. So good!
The owner was also super cool and chatted with me a little bit about their growler filling station - unlike others I've seen in the state.
Very cool folks and tasty beer. Give 'em a visit if you're in the area!
Chetty's Pub is located in Adventures on the Gorge. One of these days, I want to go back there and do the actual adventures instead of just the food.
The restaurant has typical pub fare, and the bartender said the burgers are quite popular. I went for the Chetty's Classic Burger, which is an 8 oz. burger chargrilled, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. It includes a side of fries.
The interior is totally covered in wood ala a lodge, and the building overlooks the gorge. It's a pretty cool view.
The burger is impressive. It's huge, towering and filled with toppings. It's nearly impossible to eat in its current state, so I used my knife and fork to cut it into pieces. I was not anticipating all the pickles on the burger - which were weird. Not a great pickle. A weird overly briney one. But I loved the rest of the burger. The bun was toasted, the lettuce and tomato fresh, and the patty tasty. Overall, pretty good.
I finally made it to the last Custard Stand! I made the trip to Webster Springs, the flagship location.
I ordered a chili dog with slaw, mustard and onions, as well as a chocolate shake for good measure.
I love the hot dogs from this place. I think the slaw is great, the chili is super tasty, and it all combines together to make for a delicious bite.
I only wish there was a closer one to Morgantown.
The chocolate shake is also delicious. It's hard to mess up a chocolate shake, but I always love the ice cream from this place. Good hot dogs and good ice cream - doesn't get much better than that.
Blue Moon Cafe is a sweet little cafe with a sprawling outdoor seating area. The menu features sandwiches, salads, quiche, soups and desserts.
I immediately started looking at the sandwiches, and there are so many - and lots of vegan options, as well. Some of the ones I was deciding between are:
The Pilgrim | $9
maple lawn free range smoked turkey breast oven heated with brie on a ciabatta roll & topped with our cranberry aioli
The Gobbler. | $9
local free range turkey, bacon, provolone and Russian dressing heated on a kaiser roll
The Apple-acian | $8
baked granny smith apple, brie cheese, red onion and dijon mustard on ciabatta bread
Meatball Hoagie | $9
succulent meatballs and marina baked in our oven with mozzarella on a baguette
Triple B | $10
our chubby with brie, bacon, French fried onions, lettuce, tomato, & mayo with fries (ADD ON)
Chicken breast | $3 Smoked Turkey | $ 3 Avocado | $2
I ultimately went with The Pilgrim. And a side of macaroni and cheese. :)
Everything about this was delicious. The ciabatta was fresh and had a perfect crunch to the outside, the brie was melting all over turkey breast, and the cranberry aioli added the touch of sweetness I needed.
The macaroni and cheese was creamy, cheesy and crunchy with the french-fried onions on top. Perfect, perfect lunch.
Lost Dog Coffee is weird. In a college-kid-going-through-growing-pains way. It's a hangout for artists, hippies, rockers and college students. There are political statements - possibly offensive - all over the walls, and odd little chachkies cluttering up the space.
But they know their coffee and tea.
I ordered their Sinderella's Supper, which was just described as ice caramel heaven. I'll take it. I don't even know what was in it, but I know it was delicious, and I ingested more caffeine from that drink than I typically do in an entire month.
It's a fancy little thing, and I'm not sure why they don't have iced to-go cups, but I ended up drinking it like this for our ride back to Morgantown.
I like this place. I think there's a certain group that it would turn off, and I don't think they care one bit. Which makes me like it even more.
