Fat Albert's is a pizza place in Ripley that also serves up appetizers, salads, burgers, calzones and sandwiches.

On the day I visited, the place was packed for a gathering. But I had ordered to-go, so I was just in and out quickly.


I had just ordered a personal pizza with mushrooms and a pepperoni roll. 

The pizza sauce is fairly sweet - which I loved. The dough had a nice crisp on the bottom but still had some puff to it. This was a really great flavor combination and marriage of textures.

The pepperoni roll was giant and puffy. But once you take a bite, it all flattens out. Not bad, definitely heavier on the dough.

A horror movie-themed ice cream shop opened in Ripley, and it's making quite a name for itself.

I Scream Sundae has a number of over-the-top sundaes themed around many horror movies.

And I'll take a second to say, I'm really squeamish with gross stuff - blood, hair, etc. I will eat really weird foods - but the gross stuff grosses me out. So I was cautious.

But they truly have a wide range of ice creams.

You can do just scoops of ice cream with tasty flavors like pumpkin, cotton candy, peach and more. 

And you can do regular sundaes with those flavors of ice cream.

But the over-the-top sundaes are where it's at. For example, there's the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" with strawberry ice cream, chocolate icing, broken glass (aka jolly ranchers), strawberry donuts and strawberry syrup.

And I went with "Children of the Corn," which is a caramel shake in a bowl of popcorn, pecan and coconut icing, popcorn ball, candy corns and drizzled in caramel syrup.

Pete's Hotdogs is located in Ripley and has recently reopened after a fire.


While passing through the area, I stopped through the drive-thru.


Pulling up on the right side, I could read the menu, which featured hot dogs, pepperoni rolls, Mexican dishes, salads and sandwiches. I ordered a Zul's frozen lemonade and received it before driving around the building to the other side.


There, I received my hot dog with "everything," or chili, slaw, mustard and onions.


The interesting thing about these dogs is that the toppings are put on the bottom. So I thought my dog was naked before I bit into it.


While not standard, it as convenient that all the toppings were conveniently snuggled in the bottom, so I didn't create a mess while driving. Not too shabby.

Ripley is home to a new restaurant called Maka Mia Pizza Subs & Pub.

This restaurant features pizza, subs, calzones, and pasta.

But for me, I had to check out the pepperoni rolls - a nice roll topped with parmesan herbs and stuffed with cheese.

Plus I wanted to try some boneless bbq wings.

Sorella Ristorante is a fairly new restaurant in Ripley from the owners of Fairplain Yacht Club.

It's sleek and romantic, with dark woods and stone accents.

The restaurant was participating in the MOV Restaurant Week, where there's an appetizer, entree and dessert for $30.

Sorella chose two options for each course.

Appetizers: I went for the crisped ravioli bruschetta.

For my entree, I tried the chicken picatta.

And for dessert, it was cannolis.

And, it was such a huge portion, I took half of it home.

Their regular menu was available, too, for those who didn't want to do the special deal.

When driving through Ripley, I had a hankering for dinner - particularly a hot dog.

So I found Heather's Simply Blessed Sweets, which serves a number of cakes and other sweets, as well as a daily specials like sandwiches and dinners.

This small space is all decorated with pastels and lights.

Near the counter, there were a number of cupcakes and scones available. I opted for a vanilla cupcake.

And, I also ordered a hot dog to go - chili, slaw, mustard and onions.

The vanilla cupcake has a unique icing that is thick and sweet, but with depth.

And the hot dog was tasty with a sweeter chili. Have you been here?

Cozumel has a location in Charleston, but when I was visiting my boyfriend recently, I decided to check out the location in Ripley.

They have a little shop, which is neat.

After a short wait, I was seated at a booth and looked over the menu.

My first goal: queso dip.

My second goal: Find a burrito covered in queso.

I ordered the Burrito De Lujo - which has grilled shrimp, onions, mushrooms, rice & beans and topped with cheese dip.

Goals = accomplished.

But I wasn't finished.  I also got a Mexican sundae. Mmmm.
