A new Turkish restaurant opened in Morgantown recently.
Istanbul Restaurant is located along Patteson Drive and serves a large menu full of classic favorites.
As I was perusing the menu, the owner gave me a taste of baklava and another sweet treat that I didn't catch the name of.
Wow - both were sweet and delicious.
That made me want to sample more. So I went with a sampler appetizer and a sampler entree.
The sampler appetizer came with ezme, hummus, tabbouleh, shaksuka, dolma, babaganos, tzatziki and piyaz.
And then the combo dinner had chicken gyro and lamb gyro.
So I took these back, and my mom and I had a little feast.
Since the restaurant didn't have all the items in stock, we substituted a few items.
But the lamb and chicken were both delish. And I loved the rice and salad, too.
Each of the appetizers was tasty, too.
And, I particularly liked the eggplant dish.
Just wish we had pita for everything.
Walzzy's Hotdogs is a new restaurant in the Cheat Lake area of Morgantown.
Serving up unique hotdogs, this small shop also features salads, sandwiches, a pepperoni roll, cabbage bowl and deep-fried corn on the cob.
It's an interesting mix, and I was sure to take advantage of some of the unique offerings.
I went with a Walzzy Dog, which is topped with chili, American cheese, slaw, onions and Walzzy's powder.
And a pepperoni roll, of course. And mac & cheese.
PeppeBroni's is one of my favorite local pizza places in Morgantown - but they also have a location in Weirton!
And I had ordered a pizza to pick up: mushrooms, garlic and ricotta. Mmm mmm mmm.
What's your favorite pizza here?
My dad fell ill not too long ago, and we spent a good bit of time in Weirton.
My mom and I tried some new restaurants around the city while in the area.
Spicy Gringo's is a popular Mexican restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My mom went for a quesadilla, while I opted for a mini burrito sampler.
The sampler included shredded beef, shredded chicken, chorizo, choricken (chicken and chorizo) and Yucatan Chicken (orange juice, mango, ginger, and chicken).
