I don't think it's any secret that Dairy Queen is probably my favorite fast food restaurant. Who doesn't love ice cream? Apologies to my lactose-intolerant friends.



But this post isn't about ice cream. After all, that's pretty much the same in every Dairy Queen location. Instead, it's about the "local menu" - the food.

There are quite a few Dairy Queens in West Virginia that opt into the Dairy Queen ice cream line, but the food side is their own creation. For instance, The Hinton Dairy Queen is well-known for having stellar hot dogs. And, I recall going to the Princeton Dairy Queen, which had homemade burgers and other food.



Recently, friends pointed me in the direction of the Eleanor Dairy Queen, singing the praises of those hot dogs. And, they were right. English bun, chili, slaw, mustard, onions - on point. Plus breaded mushrooms? Absolute heaven.

Have you heard of The Peach Truck? The Nashville-based food truck partners with Georgia farmers to sell fresh Georgia peaches around the country.



Recently, I saw they were going to be stopping in Hilliard, Ohio, and I had been wanting to go there anyway because I knew of a DiCarlo's location in the town. So, I figured I could kill two birds with one stone: check out the peach truck and get my DiCarlo's fix.



So, I placed my order online for the smallest amount - 25 lbs. of peaches! They took three days to ripen, and I systematically doled out peaches to all my friends so they didn't go to waste. For my part, I made a peach crisp. Tasty. Plump, juicy and fresh. It doesn't get much better.

Ice cream is good at any time. Day. Night. In a pouring thunderstorm.



When I arrived at the Craigsville Dairy Bar, it wasn't raining. BUT, by the time I got out of my car, it was pouring. But, it would take a lot more than that to deter me from ice cream.



This walk-up dairy bar has fried appetizers, sandwiches, ice cream, pizza and hot dogs. So, I ordered two of my favorites: breaded mushrooms and a caramel sundae.



The mushrooms weren't a huge portion, and I didn't have a dipping sauce. But that didn't stop me from woofing them down. The sundae was not short on caramel, but there wasn't much beyond that. Nuts? Cherry? Both were tasty, all in all.

There are a number of restaurants named Fujiyama in West Virginia, including this one in Summersville. Typically a hibachi restaurant with sushi, this Fujiyama is no different. It looks as though it's under the same ownership as the one in Beckley, with very similar menus.



For my entree, I went with the Pink Lady Roll, which has spicy crab, cream cheese, avocado and that's all that really matters right? Guilty pleasure.

After years in Charleston, I'm still learning about restaurants I haven't visited yet. The Elk River Bar & Grill was one of them.



This bar & grill just on the outskirts of town holds a steak dinner on Saturdays - Doug's steaks (which I believe may be from a previous restaurant).



The meal comes with a salad: iceberg lettuce, cheese, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, bacon and croutons. Not bad.



And the steak was humongous - chargrilled. Comes with a baked potato and garlic bread. I'm personally not a fan of the fatty pieces on the steak, and I wish the baked potato had come with butter and sour cream.
