Captain Richard's, also known as Captain's Quarters, is a bar & grill in New Martinsville with a firefighter theme that extends from its logo to its decor.



The restaurant features specials frequently, but standard menu items include burgers, steaks and a number of other comfort food clasics.



I ordered the meatloaf, which was so dry that it seemed like it sat under a heat lamp for far too long. The potatoes were nice with the piped filling. They could have used more seasoning, though. The mac & cheese was OK. Overall, I think the offerings were fairly middle-of-the-road.

Cryptids are pretty popular these days; Mothman turned from a terrifying monster to a friendly anti-hero we celebrate through merchandise, at festivals - and even at restaurants.



Bigfoot Hotdogs, named after another cryptid, in New Martinsville serves up primarily a few hot dogs, but also friees, wings, onion rings, chicken tenders and sloppy joes.



The restaurant portion itself is not very large; I assume the bar/gambling area brings in more money. But, I thought the tin ceiling and counter front were cool, and there was some fun merch. Overall, though, it's fairly simple and unassuming.



I ordered a hot dog with chili, cheeese and onion. It's a hefty dog, but flavors were all pretty mild. I did, however, get some more flavor from those jalapeno poppers with raspberry dipping sauce. Love the play on spicy and sweet there.

There's a new homemade ice cream shop in New Martinsville: Stalder Family Creamery.




There was a long line waiting to get into this shop, but I was in it for the long haul.



The flavors on this day included butter pecan, cow tracks, cake batter and a few other tasty goodies.


But the one that sounded most refreshing was the "peach" flavor. That's not an ice cream flavor you see all the time!


But after this cone, we definitely should!

While driving through New Martinsville, my tummy started grumbling around lunch time.

The Original PJ's Pizza was right along the main drive, so pizza sounded perfect.

This place does not have any sit-down dining, so I ordered something small to go: a personal pizza with mushrooms.

And, while in the area, I stopped by the Sistersville Ferry for the first time! So fun.

My last restaurant of my visit to Wetzel County was Quinet's Court Restaurant.


The restaurant is quite large, with some booth dining along the side and subsequent sprawling dining rooms near the buffet area.

The buffet features a little bit of everything.

They have bbq ribs, mac & cheese, stuffing, stuffed peppers, meatloaf, mushrooms, mashed potatoes and so much more.

I was really shocked to see the amount of food available on the buffet.


And the desserts - everything from pies and cookies to chocolate fondue.


This place was pretty busy, and I can see why.

There's a little bit of everything for everyone.
