A pit stop in Oak Hill required a quick caffeine fix. That's where Pistos Coffee came in.

"Pistos Coffee is a volunteer driven coffee shop designed to foster community. Our goal is to deliver high quality products; while maintaining low cost in order to serve our community with our available resources. We offer a wide variety of espresso creations, teas, cocoas and baked goods for our customer's enjoyment. The entryway opens into a small craft area that features all sort of neat local goodies. The case at the front had lots of tasty treats: cakes, cookies, pudding and more.

I ordered a Heath toffee bar, which was sticky sweet deliciousness. Maybe on the border of too sweet - even for me.

I also had a caramel macchiato, which is probably sweet for many people's palates. But it was a nice mix of bitterness to offset all of the sweet.

Skyline Drive-In is a dive that is most famously known for a musician who died just outside the building.

"Years of back pain, alcoholism, and prescription drug abuse severely compromised [Hank] Williams' health, and at the age of 29, Williams suffered from heart failure and died suddenly in the back seat of a car near Oak Hill, West Virginia, en route to a concert in Canton, Ohio, on New Year's Day 1953," according to Wikipedia.

Nonetheless, I visited with my friend Hannah to get a bite to eat. The first thing I noticed was that smoking is still permitted here, which I was not anticipating. The odor permeates the air, the fabrics, everything inside.

The interior is a mishmash of storage, dining space, and random items that didn't have a better place to go. But, it's a bar. It's a local dive that also has some food.

The menu features, hotdogs, fried appetizers, barbecue, wings and the like.

We started with some mozzarella sticks, which were OK. they didn't have that super hot stringy cheese; instead, the breading was a little thick and bland.

I had two hotdogs with onions and ketchup. These were OK, but the bun could have been steamed or warmed or something so it wasn't as dry. I also topped my side of fries with chili, cheese, sour cream, and jalapeños. these toppings dwarfed the crinkle cut fries, but the flavor combo is tried in. Higher quality ingredients could take this to the next level, though.

Black Bear Bakery in Oak Hill is a lovely little spot that offers up some tasty treats.

In addition to classic bakery goodies, this business also offers lunch specials, like sandwiches, salads, and more.

When I visited, I snagged a slice of pumpkin roll, which was so moist and full of cream cheese filling that I wish I would have ordered five more. Pumpkin roll is one of my favorite things this time of year, but a homemade one with tons of cream cheese takes it to the next level.

Next on my list to try are their donuts, cupcakes, pies and anything else I can get my hands on.

I love the Crab Orchard location of Hilltop Coffee, so I was excited to see them expand to Oak Hill. If you haven't read my experience at Crab Orchard, let me catch you up: beautiful, delicious, cool. Let's see if Oak Hill lives up to the standard that Crab Orchard has set.

It's lovely inside - clean, sleek, modern - which is not always the norm in West Virginia. More often, I see country chic vibes or an amalgamation of decor. So I love seeing the vision.

I ordered the "Butterscotch Blessing" frozen coffee drink. I love those rich almost burnt caramel-ly notes and it totally neutralized any bitterness that would have come through from the espresso. It was delicious, like every drink I've had from here. Now, they also have a mobile coffee truck that is next on my list to try!

The Big LeBOWLski is a traveling food truck "with some spunk," according to their facebook. They riff on the famous movie with their tagline that they pack the freshest bowls.

Often found at Root 19 Outpost in Mt. Lookout (a gathering spot for food trucks and other vendors), the truck features sandwiches, nachos, mac & cheese and hot dogs.

I really wanted "The Dude," which is mac & cheese, beer cheese and bacon sloppy joe. They unfortunately had run out, so I went with "The Duder."

"The Duder" has mac & cheese with pulled pork on top. Plus hella jalapenos, apparently. Judging by the vast array of hot sauces they also have to top your dish with, these folks are not shy with spice.

They served up my order in a box tray with an old-school RC and side of sauce. It was more like a mustard-based BBQ, and I enjoyed that tang.

Both the mac & cheese and pulled pork were a touch dry. I'm not sure if that's because they're batch cooking, and it gets dried out over time or what. Some cheesiness or even fattiness from the pork would have helped. The sauce, though, helped with that.

Those jalapenos were a lot. Especially raw. I would have loved a pickled jalapeno. I moved most of them off to the side - but I am a wimp. They threw in an extra chocolate donut treat to top things off.

I have a soft spot for drive ins, whether it's the nostalgia factor or just that it's something different and fun to do. They have been waning in popularity - at least in the Mountain State. I've been to all the current ones in West Virginia - and then a brand new one opened up in Oak Hill.

The Starlite Drive-In just opened this summer, and it's unlike any other drive-in I've been to. It's $8 cash per person to watch a double-feature - which are usually brand new movies! Modern bathrooms (nice ones!), modern concessions, and even a little food truck of its own. Let's focus on the food.

The main concessions building has movie favorites, like nachos, big boxes of candy, popcorn, and even hot dogs and pizza.

I went with a box of Milk Duds (these are the best) and a small thing of nachos. I didn't want a huge portion here, though I am definitely curious about the pizza in the future. The nachos were a small portion, plenty of salted corn chips and some hot fake cheese that is oddly comforting.

But I wanted to try the Little Dipper food truck. This one is cash only, but they have some different items. When I was there, they had pulled pork, philly cheesesteak, corn dogs, cotton candy and more.

While it's not usually my go-to, I was in the mood for a philly cheesesteak. It was calling to me. And maaaan, I know why.

This sandwich was GOOD. And not just standard drive-in fare good - really tasty good. The bread was a nice medium between soft and crusty. The meat was a good quality with no chewy or stringy pieces. Plenty of mayo, cheese, peppers... I might need to go back to the drive-in JUST for this. Perfect bites.

You can get it as part of a meal deal with a bag of chips and a drink, too, and it comes in this little tray that was like a perfect little tv dinner - but for a movie. I also believe they have since added another food truck - but this one for ice cream. Yum.

If you have a free Thursday, Friday or Saturday before this summer is over, I strongly recommend checking it out for a new movie, a fun evening or some pretty dang good food.

Custom Creations Bakery opened not too long ago in Oak Hill.

The small bakery on Main Street offers a selection of breads, cupcakes, cookies and, of course, pepperoni rolls.

Let's dig in. The space is cute with some dots on the wall and pink accents all over.

I started with a piece of banana bred, which is a sleeper bakery item in my opinion. It's one of my favorites. This was a nice little hunk.

Next up was a pepperoni roll - a pretty good rendition, at that. Perfect proportions of meat and cheese and bread.

A final sweet bite came in the form of a strawberry cupcake. Solid satisfactory marks across the board.
