"7 Brew was born from a desire to change drive-thru coffee into a fun, mind-blowing experience for everyone. We dreamed of serving premium coffee in record time and making new friends while we’re at it. The dream came alive with our first “stand” in Rogers, AR and our 7 original coffees. Today, we’re cranking out all kinds of custom-hand crafted drinks in different locations throughout the country. 7 Brew is so much more than just a coffee stand. It’s the concept of cultivating kindness and joy with every drink – through our service, speed, quality, energy and atmosphere. It’s contagious and it’s changing the drive-thru coffee industry," according to the website.
I ordered a blueberry pomegranate smoothie, which was light and fresh and refreshing. Not too thick or overly sweet. It could even do with a bit bolder flavor. That would be OK in my book.

Fruits of Labor has been expanding across southern West Virginia - from Rainelle and Alderson to Montgomery and now Beckley.

"You'll be greeted warmly at all five of our locations which are nestled in four different river valleys across West Virginia. Sometimes by a core staff member, other times by a neighbor in recovery or young person in an addiction prevention program.
Both groups of students participate in our Nationally Certified American Culinary Federation Quality Training Program & Farm-to-Table Café and Bakery.
Each time you visit Fruits of Labor, your purchase invests in our students and allows us to offer this training and certification free of charge," reads the website.

This location is much like the others, offering soup, salads and sandwiches. It has several small tables inside and a bar area touting baked goods. It is also home to a separate spin off downstairs that offers pizza and coffee. I'll have to come back for that one.
For now, I ordered the Bacon & Blue Burger: Made with 1/3-pound Ground Beef, topped with crumbled Amish Blue Cheese, Smoked Bacon, and Baby Swiss Cheese served on our house made Café Bun. I do love some bleu cheese on a burger, but this one was pretty heavy on the funk so it overpowered the other flavors. I would love to see a bacon jam or candied bacon to bring the flavors into harmony. Overall, though, fairly tasty.

Sakura Mankai Café (which means cherry blossoms in full bloom) is a Japanese inspired limited restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, desserts, tea, coffee, and bubble tea.

I stopped here for a quick bite and started with a strawberry boba tea. Actually, instead of a smooth tea, this was more like an icy one. Like a step toward frothy, but not quite to milkshake level. The flavor was nice, but the texture I am not sure on.

I ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl with noodles, onions, and sesame seeds. I'm guessing they don't have a hot cooktop in the back, because the texture of this dish seem to suggest it had been reheated.

It was a bit rubbery and didn't have a depth of flavor that I was hoping for.

There are several Campestre locations - Princeton, Lexington and Beckley. I visited the Princeton location previously, so it was time to check out the Beckley one.

Of course, we started with some salsa. It was mild, but had some decent roasty flavors. We also had to have some queso, which always sets the tone. A deliciously cheesy tone, that is.

For my main entrée, I went with a shrimp and rice dish with vegetables. It's a tried and true dish for me because it's difficult to mess up unless you overcook the shrimp, but it's tasty, somewhat healthy and simple.

I think Campestre is always a step above many of the area's similar restaurants. It always seems fresh and flavorful and creative.

What's your fav dish here?

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to another Gino's location we go. This time, we're in Beckley along Harper Road.

Basically, Gino's is a West Virginia chain, and I'm on a hunt to document every location. I try to mix it up a bit and order some different items. On this day, it was a Philly cheesesteak. The bread was a bit thick/rough, and the quality of meat was average. It ate a little bit dry, so some mayo or cheese sauce would have done wonders. However, it was hefty, had a nice coating of cheese and was fairly satisfying overall.

Bodegas are a thing in larger cities; they're small grocery stores and often in Spanish-speaking communities.

So my interest was piqued to find East Beckley Bodega in Beckley - even more so to find out they operate a small kitchen called Kiayla's Grandma's Kitchen.

I thank Door Dash for this discovery. The store itself had some empty shelves but did have some more unique snack items that aren't always easy to find.

The store did have a few pastry goods like slices of cake available for sale, but I was there a bit later in the day so not sure how well they would have held up at that hour. Regardless, I put in an order for a cheeseburger and mac & cheese.

So, overall, it was decent. I was kinda like a backyard bbq burger, which is totally fine, just a bit unwieldy. The bun was a bit too soft to handle this monster of a burger, super thick cut tomatoes and onions made it a bit difficult to eat. The burger itself could have benefited from some more seasoning, but I was happy they were generous with the portions.

The mac & cheese was clearly homemade with some baked cheese pieces in there and the pasta was broken down a good bit from the cooking. But with a ton of cheese, how could I not enjoy it? Not bad.

Coffee on Main is a fairly new coffee shop in Beckley that not only offers coffee, but also pastries, sandwiches and more.

Unfortunately, they will be closing their doors so I wanted to make sure I share my lovely experience here.

The inside is cozy and a bit rustic. I started with an iced coffee with caramel. I didn't see any real specialty creations, so I kept it simple. And, it was good!

And a good blueberry muffin is one of my weaknesses, so when I saw it, I knew it was coming home with me.

This, too, was tasty. I love when it has that sugared top that gives some texture, but this was straight-forward and good.

Nothing too crazy, nothing out of the norm. But solid and satisfying.

The Pink Pig has been bopping around the southern part of the state - from Fayetteville to Huntington to Beckley - and I was lucky to catch them open a few months ago in their Beckley location.

I've had their food in a few different locations, so it's no surprise I knew what I wanted: these delicious jalapeno poppers covered in bacon and some pasta salad. These are flavorful and satisfying. The ambiance and service left a bit to be desired but no major complaints.

They also had some products for sale - like Blue Smoke Salsa and Moon Pies. That was a fun little throwback.

Overall, a tasty meal. But I don't think they're currently open, and it's tough to keep track of when they are.

Guess what? As of the time of this writing, I have officially visited all of the Gino’s locations in the state. I just have a few more to share here.

On this day, I visited one of the Beckley locations, and I’ve really grown to enjoy their pizza. So I got one with just mushrooms, and it was a little extra-done. I liked it; it gave some more crispy texture and lots of stretchy cheese. Solid pie.
