La Carreta is a Mexican restaurant in Kanawha City that seemed like a perfect option for a quick work lunch.
There's plenty of parking, especially around back where there's also an additional entrance.
Look at these cuties!
The menu features typical Mexican-American fare - but first, chips & salsa.
For my entree, I went with the "La Casa Special."
La Casa Special is two rolled flour burritos with cheese sauce on top. I got one beef and one chicken.
Sara got a taco salad.

I've passed by Waffle Hut in Flatwoods for years. As the token rest stop along 79, Flatwoods is always a good place to fill up or grab a bite.
But in all that time, I've never stopped at Waffle Hut. Maybe because I opt for the drive-thru or am short on time, but I found myself at the right time and place to make it happen.
They are open 24 hours a day and serve breakfast all day.
And, good news for me, they also served lunch/dinner at 10 a.m. Because I read that the honey dipped chicken is great. So, I got that with a side of corn and mashed potatoes. And rolls!

I'm slowly making my way through all of the Mexican restaurants in the Kanawha Valley.
On this trip, it was Cozumel Mexican Restaurant.
The restaurant is full of bright color, decorative art and all the typical American-Mexican fare you can imagine.
But first, chips & salsa.
And, queso is one of life's best pleasures.
What's your go-to at a Mexican restaurant? I typically try to find a burrito covered in queso.
And, I found just that.
Burrito Vallarta - two rolled flour burritos with chicken, steak, onions topped with ranchero sauce, queso cheese, lettuce, tomato and sour cream.

When I drove by the South Charleston Dairy Bar, it made me think of the local ice cream shop in my hometown in the summer.
So, I was really excited to go check it out. They do take credit cards and are open a little later in the evening (7/8) than I originally thought.
Since I was hungry, I got a West Virginia-style hot dog (chili, slaw, mustard and onions).

Plus some fried mushrooms.
Then I went back for a swirled ice cream cone.
