When I heard that a bakery in Gap Mills has one of the best pepperoni rolls in the state, I didn't hesitate to make a road trip.

The small bakery makes a few different items - like breads, rolls, etc.

The pepperoni rolls were being sold by the dozen, but I asked if I could simply buy two.

I just wanted a snack - and lord knows I have enough pepperoni rolls in my freezer to last an apocalypse.

They even warmed it up! The standard roll has no cheese (though if you call in advance, they will make some up for you). Soft, fresh bread is always the way to go!

And, a quick stop at Bluestone Lake State Park.

Gap Mills has two little gems right across from one another: a delicious bakery and Cheese 'N More, a store with a little bit of everything.

The front portion of the store sells all sorts of jams, jellies, and other condiments. Plus bulk candies and other goodies.

I always love being able to buy a whole package of just red gummy bears or other unique candies you can't find everywhere.

These are perfect snacks for a roadtrip!

Toward the back, they have a deli counter where you can get delicious cheeses or even get a sandwich made!

I wanted to pick up just a couple things - first, the cheese. I tried a vegetable yogurt cheese.

And, I got this s'mores snack mix!

And, I got to check out Moncove Lake while there! Have you been?

Kalico Kitchen is in the small town of Union.

This restaurant was once listed on one of those "must try" lists floating around, so I put it on my own personal (neverending) must-try list.

So, while in the area, I stopped by to get a bite to eat.

The restaurant is cute, located in the main downtown area and has homestyle dishes - from breakfast to dinner.

On this day, I ordered a chicken sandwich with cheese and mustard. Plus a side of breaded mushrooms! Mmm.

And, who could pass up a serving of blackberry cobbler a la mode!

You probably have heard of the Dairy Queen in Hinton, which overlooks the beautiful river.

But there are actually some delicious restaurants in Hinton, including this gem of Kirk's.

Kirk's has the same beautiful view of the river - if not better - and serves some homestyle dishes that people love.

The restaurant serves breakfast, but I knew I needed to try one of their hot dogs.

Look at that view!

Lots of fishermen in this area.

The menu at this restaurant is so neat - pointing out landmarks and fun places in the county.

A slawdog with chili, mustard and onions on an grilled English bun. Side of onion rings.

Nearby Sandstone Falls.

And the Johny Henry statue in Talcott!
