No matter where you are in West Virginia, there's usually a Tudor's nearby. I found myself driving through Beaver and in desperate need of a biscuit.

My go-to: sausage biscuit with grape jelly.

Books & Brews opened a location on the West Side.

I've been to their Hurricane location, so I was excited to see one a bit closer to home.

It's located in the "Elk City" neighborhood, and it's a large space.

They have a reading nook area in the front by the windows with books.

And the remainder of the restaurant is table service.

I actually came here twice. The first time we ordered a quick lunch. Dawn went with a pizza.

And I ordered the Italian sandwich with shaved ham, pepperoni, salami, tomato, lettuce, peppers, provolone, oil & vinegar, oregano, cracked pepper on a baguette.

On my second visit, they had added pepperoni rolls to the menu. So I had to try them.

And this Sora Stout from Bad Shepherd Beer Company collab with Void Coffee.

I've had Island Teriyaki in a number of ways - at their sit-down location, at festivals, etc.

So when they moved locations - just across the plaza - I took it as an opportunity to check it out again.

Island Teriyaki Xpress is a carryout spot, but they are still serving their famous yum-yum balls.

These fried rice balls are gifts from the gods.

I like the teriyaki ones.

Over-the-top milkshakes are a thing.

And the local go-to is Bella Rose in Hurricane.

It was previously operating under a different name, but recently reopened under Bella Rose and added food.

Unfortunately they had run out of most of the food, so I focused on dessert.

I went for a s'mores over-the-top milkshake that included charred marshmallows, Hershey's chocolate and graham cracker.

There are a number of over-the-top shakes to choose from.

Which one would you choose?

Charleston has a number of Mexican restaurants, and I've made it my goal to try all of them.

Most recent on my list was Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant.

This West Side Mexican restaurant has your standard fare.

We started with chips and salsa.

And maybe a frozen strawberry margarita.

Or two.

I ordered the Burrito Roqueta - Two flour tortillas wrapped with grilled chicken, onions and cheese sauce. Served with a side of rice and pico de gallo.
