You may have heard the story about how West Virginia flooded the town of Gad to make the Summersville Dam. The funny part of this story is that had the dam been named after the town - it would've been called Gad Dam.

So Gad Dam Brewing is named in this same theme - though they often go by G.D.B. And the name be a big deceiving. While it sounds like they are a brewery, they actually haven't created any of their own beer (at least not yet).

They do, however, serve coffee and other beer on tap. So, I made a trip to check it out!

The location is really unique. It's almost hidden just back off the main roads. It;'s like a little bit of a wooden oasis in a more busy downtown area.

There is a bar area and then a nice more open area with some seating. So, in today's world, there is plenty of space for social distancing. There is also a good bit of space outside for games, relaxation, etc.

OKAY so let's talk food. I was just trying to get something to go, so no beer on this visit. If they were producing their own, though, I definitely would've tried some. Instead, I went with a smoothie. This was a thick, sweet, tasty smoothie. Strawberry/raspberry was key.

And they have pepperoni rolls. I have to say, this is one of the best pepperoni rolls I've had in a LONG time. They warmed it up for me. So, it was warm, moist, cheesy and just really, really good. I wish I would've bought more than one.

Also, how funny is this sign in the restroom?

Have you been?

We're back on that Tudor's Biscuit World groove. This time, we're in Huntington.

This location on 20th Street has "Where It All Began" on their front windows, leading many folks to believe it's the first one. But this was a hot conversation on Twitter a few years ago, where I learned the original Tudor's location was on the West Side - but not the one that's currently there.

Now that the signature biscuits are out of the way, I'm trying the remainder of the biscuits - like this egg melt. I mean. it's probably a good option for vegetarians? But since eggs are not my most favorite things, this is not my most favorite biscuit. I like that it exists. But I do not want it again.

Fuji Express, a new restaurant located on Hal Greer in Huntington, opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. While that presents a number of challenges, it also presented some opportunities - like adapting to this "new normal." For instance, they have a pick up window. And that made me feel comfortable trying them, as I've been trying to limit my indoor dining.

Their menu features hibachi entrees, Japanese udon noodles, sushi, teriyaki and Chinese dishes. So, a little bit of everything. But first, no matter what, start with crab rangoons. These weren't super memorable, but by the looks of the blurry photo, I wasted no time scarfing them down.

For my entree, I went with chicken teriyaki. I learned it's an art, of sorts, in Seattle. I was hoping to experience some of that same flavor. It wasn't exactly the same - but it was like a lighter version. The sauce could've been a bit bolder with more flavor instead of lightly brushed on some grilled pieces.

Overall, it was decent. But next time, I might try some of the udon or sushi.

There has been one authentic Filipino restaurant in West Virginia that has been an absolute dream! And now, there are two.

Phillippines Best Food, located in Parkersburg, just opened a second location in Williamstown down at the boat ramp on the river.

It's a walk-up counter and has some outdoor dining. The menu is more streamlined with 2 steps: pick a bowl or a burrito. Then, pick your protein. Plus there are sides and kid options.

For my entree, I went with a pork adobo bowl with pancit noodles. It is marinated pork with onions and potatoes served over rice noodles. It has a rich, slightly sweet flavor and is so tender that it's just *chef's kiss* perfection.

But, wait, there's more. If you're not getting lumpia while here, you're doing it wrong. I hate making statements like that - I just love these things. So crispy - but fresh. Just really good.

And I ordered some jalapeno poppers - mostly because I thought they might have a different twist, but they're pretty straight forward.

My favorite part, though ...

Was the halo-halo! This signature drink reminds me of my friends Kaitlynn and Josh, who had it at their wedding. So, this was only the second time I've ever had it. And I can't wait to have it again.

Halo-halo has crushed ice, evaporated milk, ube ice cream (like sweet potato or yam), sweetened beans and leche flan (thank you for this, Sam!). The flavors are different and layered and the texture is varied. Just loved it.
