The Salty Donut originated in 2015 as a pop up shop out of a 1950s Aljoa camper.



Now, they have locations across Miami, Austin, Dallas, Orlando, Charlotte and more.



While in Miami, I stopped here to get a sweet treat. Or maybe two.



I started with the White Chocolate Tres Leches - 24 hr brioche soaked in a homemade rum-infused three milk mixture, bottom crusted with white chocolate + finished with torched meringue. This was so moist and delicious.



And then I also got a Caramel Toffee Crumb, which has a few of my favorite things: caramel and toffee. It wasn't as moist but it was even sweeter.



I don't think you can really go wrong with any option here!

SoJo's Donuts is my friend Kaitlynn's favorite donut shop ever. Part of it, I think, is due to the tasty donuts. But another part of it, I think, is because it has become like her "third" place in the city when she moved out west. It's not work, it's not home, it's that other comfy space that you enjoy. Either way, I was excited to visit this spot she enjoys dearly.



SoJo's Donuts makes handmade vegan donuts and breakfast sandwiches from local, responsibly sourced and organic ingredients.



Their standard options include: Vanilla, Vanilla Sprinkle, Maple, Maple Bacon, Chocolate sprinkle, Strawberry sprinkle, Chocolate bar, Maple bar, Salted Caramel Twist, Cinnamon Twist, Apple fritters, Lavender Lemon, Blueberry Lemon, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry Shortcake, Boston Cream, Raspberry Jam Filled, and other Seasonal flavors



Lavender lemon is her all-time favorite, which I did enjoy. I'm hit or miss with lavender flavor. Sometimes, it can be too floral for me.



But the cookie d'oh and pecan pie filling donuts were more up my alley. Very rich glaze with a delightful chewy dough.

I recently traveled out to the small town of Arnoldsburg, and found a few hidden foodie gems along the way.



Faith Filled Donuts is a small, locally owned sweets shop located in Arnoldsburg.



While donuts are clearly their specialty, they also offer breakfast items, lunch items and desserts like rock candy, cupcakes, chocolate-covered strawberries, cookies, fudge and more.



I tried a jelly-filled one, one topped with sprinkles and cream-filled ones. they each seem like they had maybe sat out for a little while, which I understand when you're in a small town, it's not going to be busy constantly. So, the texture was a little lacking but there were some nice flavors there.

Let me set a scenario for you: It's a cool late summer/early fall day. You're at the farmers market. There's a donut food truck. Does it get much better? I caught Drifter Doughnuts at tbe Bridgeport Farmers Market recently and had to get my hands on these mini donuts.



They serve a small boatload of mini donuts topped with all sorts of goodies, like fruit, nuts, caramel, and even bacon. I went for cherry crisp, which had cherry pie filling, cream cheese icing and graham cracker crumbles. Sweet, crisp donuts with that fruity, comforting topping - a delish snack on this day.

I took a quick trip through the drive-through to order some donuts for breakfast. Sidenote: I love that they have photos of the donuts to help you visualize what you're ordering.



I went for a traditional, raised, glazed donut, as well as a blueberry cake donut – which is my favorite. The glazed donut is the soft, airy donut that is common.And this was a good one, though, I do wish that I had it warmer, so the glaze was smooth and not crackled. The cake donut, meanwhile, is more dense and has more substance, which is why I like it. It's like a hybrid between a muffin and a donut and a cake. It's a nice sweet treat paired with a cofee.

Thrillist compiled a list of the 32 Best Donut Shops in America, and Long’s Bakery (1453 N. Tremont Street) in Indianapolis was on it. So, the next time I was in the city, I made a point to stop.



"The bakery specializes in donuts. Their most popular is a glazed yeast donut, for which up to 20 people will wait in line on Saturday mornings. They also produce apple cinnamon frys, apple fritters, Long Johns, and cake donuts," according to Wikipedia.



They are pretty old school, because they don't accept cards, and they keep it pretty classic with their variety of donuts. Apple cinnamon, cake, glazed.



I opted for a baby alligator, which was caramel and white iced, as well as a caramel.



Now, these have a thick slab of icing, which is an instant sugar rush. And they have a sort of traditional icing that gets a little bit harder than, say, a buttercream.



These are hardy donuts, so you may not need a ton. Two filled me up pretty quickly. And I did enjoy both.



I wouldn't mind if they were a bit softer, but I enjoy these classic ones with traditional flavors, as well.

This small coffee shop in Marmet is a new one just down the road from Chum's Hotdogs.



Simply Sweet Coffee & Donut Shop offers coffee and donuts, which to me, sounds perfect before or after a hotdog with yellow slaw.



Better yet, they even have a drive-through. So, you can get your caffeine and sugar fix before work, as well. But, if dining in is more your speed, they do have a cute interior with some tables and chairs spread about.



At the front is a glass case full of various types of donuts. Glazed, cake, filled - I tried one of each. They were all pretty tasty, with the blueberry cake doughnut being my favorite of the bunch.



If you're looking for savory, though, you're in luck because no good pastry shop goes without a pepperoni roll.



Simply Sweet's pepperoni roll is a hefty little guy with an adequate amount of sliced pepperoni and a side of marinara.



I don't love the air pocket at the top of the roll, but I did enjoy the bread to pepperoni ratio and the added sauce on the side.



Overall, I think this type of restaurant is a welcome addition to the area. Locally made donuts, pastries, pepperoni rolls, and coffee are a crowd-pleaser, and I can see these sweet treats being a welcome snack any time of day.

The Donut Shop has been a much beloved donut and pepperoni roll purveyor for years. Recently, though, they went through some ownership changes and is now known as The Donut Spot.



The "new" restaurant gave me an excuse to stop by - especially during ramperoni roll season. For the uninitiated, a pepperoni roll with ramps is often referred to as a ramperoni roll.



Fortunately, it appears nothing has changed at The Donut Spot and the ramperoni rolls have remained untouched: ground pepperoni with optional American, mozzarella or hot pepper cheese.



The hot pepper and American cheese options are my favorite. Interesting texture plus some heat plus fluffy bread plus creamy cheese. They're really delicious.



Don't sleep on the donuts, either. My favorite donut anywhere is a blueberry cake donut. It's like breakfast and dessert in one.



I also tried the filled strawberries & cream donut, because how can you pass that up? It's like a little cloud of dough filled with a heavenly filling. All in all, same delicious food, slightly new name.

Voted as the best donuts in Atlanta, Sublime Doughnuts was at the top of my list to try when I visited the city. They are known for their Atlanta pride in topping a number of lists for best donuts not only in the city, but the country.



I couldn't pass up trying a few out. I started with the chocolate frosted "A" Town cream donut. Plus a s'mores doughnut, of course, Oreo, Red Velvet and more. while the fruit stuffed donuts fit my personal preference more, these donuts were creative and sweet and fun. They do have some adventurous flavors as well, and I would love to try those next time. It's tough to dislike a decent donut; even though they're not my main thing, I won't turn down a sweet treat. And these were as sweet as any, and just as tasty.
