The "Mad Monks" are really "Canons" (and not the kind that go boom!), of the Canons Regular Of The New Jerusalem. These Canons are Catholic priests who live and pray in community, and are located right here in Charles Town.  

The Canons wanted everyone to be able to enjoy a Charles Town coffee shop atmosphere, get to meet more or their neighbors in town, and, well, enjoy the coffee and bread, so they opened their own place.
