Smoothie bowls are a healthy trend right now - maybe because they're delicious. But maybe also because they're highly instagrammable.
VOID in Charleston recently began offering a smoothie bowl, so I checked it out with my friend Sm for lunch today.
So tasty - and super cute, too!
This is only the second smoothie bowl I've had in West Virginia - the first being in Fayetteville at the Raw & Juicy Juice Bar. Also super cute!
There are lots of restaurants at The Greenbrier.
But I love the Main Dining Room.
It just seems so elegant. And it's right in the middle of everything!
I came down for breakfast - but first, coffee.
I love these little mini jars of jam at the table!
Smoothie palate cleanser
Most people opted for the buffet, but when I saw the salmon bagel on the menu, my day was made. And that may be the fanciest salmon bagel I've ever seen.
And I always try to get a side of fruit. I love a little sweetness on the side!
One of the restaurants at the very top of my West Virginia wishlist has been Prime 44 West.
Located in The Greenbrier, it's certainly a "special occasion" restaurant on my budget.
It is Jerry West-themed and even features some of his memorabilia.
I recently splurged so I could try the place that was featured on "Best Thing I Ever Ate."
The restaurant is elegant, with a touch of sports bar - in the best way.
Like this!
The restaurant is known for its steak, and I knew I wanted the potatoes, so it made for an easy decision.
But, first, bread! Including the cornbread from First Lady Cathy Justice.
Here are those famous lobster mashed potatoes!
Love these little touches!
And, of course, filet mignon with the house steaksauce!
Have you been?
Rolls on the River, which is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central West Virginia, pairs together local pepperoni rolls and craft beer.
This year, there were seven pepperoni roll vendors:
- A Step in Time
- Home Industry Bakery
- Piggly Wiggly
- Kroger
- Pepperoni Grill
- Mountain Pie
- Swiftwater Cafe
And, Bad Shepherd even brewed a beer with pepperoni: Pat's White Label, with pepperoni and habanero.
I was fortunate to judge alongside Quincy Wilson and Eric Nelson.
Kroger & Piggly Wiggly are a bit of outsiders here. They're grocery stores, rather than bakeries, and the rolls were pre-cut so they got a touch dried out.
Home Industry is a big-hitter in the pepperoni roll game, especially in the North Central West Virginia area. Always a classic.
Mountain Pie was one of my favorites, with some nice parmesan on top and a side of dipping sauce, too.
A Step In Time came all the way from Harpers Ferry bringing their Mama Jo's Pepperoni Rolls! So delicious.
Pepperoni Grill has a deliciously cheesy, savory roll. Plus two sauces - marinara or pizza!
Swiftwater Cafe has a delicious roll, which is a go-to for roadtrips!
Winners:
1st - Mountain Pie
2nd - Pepperoni Grill
3rd - Swiftwater Cafe
Honorable Mention: A Step In Time
People's Choice: Mountain Pie
And, look at these super cute cookies Sugar Momma Sweets made for the event!
