Sweet Thangs is a small sweets shop in Bluefield that is adjoined to a home goods store.
The shop has items like homemade zebra cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies and more.
And oh my gosh, these little cakes!
I just wanted something small so I got one of these cake balls. Why are these so delicious?!

Back in my day - aka when I used to spend significant time in Princeton, this location was a Subway.
Now, it's a beloved BBQ restaurant: Emmett's Down South.
It's a counter-service restaurant, so I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, macaroni & cheese and hushpuppies. That's like an iconic trio for me. And those hushpuppies are a unique shape!
This tall window-ed, circular building is dishing out coffee in Bluefield. And, it's just the coolest.
The Coffee Corner is a beautiful space that serves up drinks and snacks in southern West Virginia.
They have frappes - my new weakness - so I ordered a caramel one and a blueberry scone.
I was sad they hadn't made pepperoni rolls for the day yet. But she heated up the scone, and it was perfect with my frozen drink.
This spot is also perfect for car-watching, because they drive right past this cafe constantly.
These are my kind of places.
The Big Wheel is a local favorite restaurant in Alderson.
With wooden beams and wheel accents, it has a country feel and homey vibe.
The menu has lots of home-cooked favorites, as well as a salad bar.
I ordered the chicken finger dinner, which came with one trip to the salad bar, a side of baked potato and roll.
The salad bar had quite a good bit of options! You don't see too many of these at local restaurants.
I like my salads with a little lettuce and a lot of tomatoes and croutons.
