Donut Connection is a chain that has a few locations in the southern part of the state: Charleston, Huntington and Beckley.

I had never tried one until I came to Charleston. Charleston has two: one on MacCorkle Avenue and one on Spring Street. On a free morning, I decided to try the MacCorkle location.

There are nearly 3 dozen different kinds to choose from, with everything from filled donuts and ring donuts to white cake and chocolate cake.

For my half dozen, I ordered:

• Charleston delight, which is filled with a vanilla cream and topped with chocolate
• Cherry cake
• Honey dew, which tastes like a sour cream donut
• Peanut butter ice
• Toasted coconut
• Cronut

I'm not sure if the Charleston Delight is available everywhere, but I thought that was neat.
