I've only been to one Highway 55 location, and that was in downtown Huntington. But Barboursville recently opened its own, and I went to check it out.
The first thing I realized is that this location has a drive-thru! I didn't even know this restaurant had drive thrus. But here we are.
After looking over the menu, I decided to try a few different things: an Orangeade - as opposed to a lemonade - a shrimp po'boy and also half fries/half rings.
The Orangeade is so good. I feel like we should make "ades" for every fruit. Can I get a grapeade please?
The po'boy was pretty good. I ended up picking off the tomato (even though I love tomato), it didn't quite "go." But the sauce was good, and together, it was like a comfort food. And the half onion rings and half fries gives you the best of both worlds!
We know Sam's Hot Dogs has a solid, standard hot dog.
And at the Barboursville Sam's location, that was an option. Along with pork BBQ, burgers and fries.
On this day, none of those were cutting it. Instead, I opted for a corndog. A corndog is usually reserved for a special occasion for me - a carnival, an amusement park, etc. But this day felt special enough.
And, it was good. I won't bore you with my deep thoughts on this culinary delight. But, it had a nice crisp on the outside and the sweetness with the hot dog just makes me think of every fair I've ever been to. No culinary miracle but definitely a pleasant treat.
Here's another Tudor's location off my checklist: Barboursville.
Just a quick drive-thru at this one - to get the new blackberry biscuit. This one was missing the granola on top - and the cream - but still had that super sweet, delicious blackberry sauce.
When there are really good restaurants in West Virginia, they usually make their way across my radar. The ones that I currently have left on my list are ones I've seen in passing but haven't necessarily heard rave reviews. Or those that are more "bar & grill" or just "bar" type spots.
That's not the case with Main Street on Central in Barboursville. I've only recently heard about the restaurant, but as soon as it popped up a few times, I knew I had to make a beeline there, ASAP.
The restaurant is dinner only, so it took a bit of maneuvering to be in this area around this time - since that's not typical. Fortunately, my friend Dawn and I made it in right as they were opening at 5 p.m. to check it out.
First of all, the building is lovely. The interior has a certain charm to it, and the ornate decor is beautiful. It is upscale with a touch of cozy. First, we were served warm bread.
Then, the menu featured a ton of seafood, and the one that let me try a few different types of seafood as the "seafood pasta," which included scallops, shrimp and crab in a lemon cream sauce. The seafood was cooked and seasoned well; the pasta was tender; and it was a lovely combination of flavors.

Barboursville is home to some hidden gems, including Sweet & Sassy bakery.
The bakery is fairly nondescript, save for a sign outside that says the name of the bakery. I walked in through the gate and knocked on the front door. After I was welcomed inside, I walked to the left and saw the small shop.
The case was stocked with fresh cupcakes: confetti, white wedding, strawberry, chocolate mint and more.
So three cupcakes caught my eye: the strawberry, the confetti and the white wedding.
The strawberry was my favorite - super fresh and fruity and moist. The other two were more similar. But all tasty.

Super China Buffet is right near the Huntington Mall, so I made a quick pitstop while in the area recently. And in one of my favorite moves: I got a to-go box from the buffet.
The buffet here is pretty large, including a hibachi station, some sushi, desserts, homestyle foods and the classic American-Chinese style dishes.
For me: Honey chicken, crab cheese rangoons, crabmeat, egg foo young, mushrooms with cheese. Mmm.
What's your go-to at the buffet?
Or, favorite buffet in the state?
Christopher's Eats, located in Barboursville, is known for their coal-fired oven and flatbreads. I tried one of their tasty flatbreads a few years ago. But they recently moved locations, so I thought it was time for a new visit.
And their new location is quite the change. No longer in a strip mall, this restaurant has expanded into a complex of sorts. Plus there are levels, outdoor dining, bar seating and more.
On this particular day, it was brunch. And they were very, very busy. In fact, there was going to be a wait just for one. But after a minute or two, a table opened up.
The brunch menu includes chicken & waffles, biscuits & gravy, breakfast burgers and more. For me, I went with a seafood benedict: biscuit, crabcakes, poached eggs, hollandaise and a side of fruit.
That's always a winning combo for me - and probably one of my top brunch options. Savory, buttery, deliciousness with a side of sweet. Not too shabby.

West Virginia is home to yet another Waffle House!
There are only a couple in the state - over in the Eastern Panhandle and one in Huntington. And, now, there's one even closer to home: in Barboursville.
I'm new to the Waffle House fandom, but I've learned my hashbrown order: smothered, covered, chunked and capped (onions, cheese, ham and mushrooms). The hashbrowns are really the star here, so that's most important. I got a double order.
PS Did you know they called it the WAFFLE house because the waffles had the biggest profit margin? And since it was in the name, that's what most people started ordering?
The hash browns and a slice of pecan pie? The best combo ever.
The Fuel Counter is a make-your-own sandwich, salad and pizza shop that has a location in Huntington.
And, they recently opened up another location in Barboursville. It's a small space, but perfect for takeout.
So I went with a pizza: red sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, spinach, mushrooms, fig and balsamic glaze.
Have you been?
Barboursville has a bunch of great places to eat.
Recently, I was in the mood for sushi so I made my way to Shogun Japanese Steakhouse.
While you can opt for the hibachi grill, I perused the sushi menu.
And, I went with the West Virginia roll - crab, cream cheese, shrimp tempura and all the sauces.
And, a Turtle Roll, which was much the same but deep-fried.
