Oddfellers' Fine Foods is a Richwood restaurant under the direction of Chef Libby Nolle, who has recieved statewide recognition for her food. The restaurant held a fancy ramp supper - it is Richwood after all - for $80/person. "These ain’t your grandma’s ramps, perhaps, but we are all super proud and excited to be able to host our first annual “Oddfellers’ Fancy Ramp Feed.” Libby has gone above and beyond in creating an intriguing and delicious six course menu that celebrates our Appalachian culinary traditions in a manner that is elegant and refined, yet bursting with flavor at every turn. A dinner worth changing your plans for," the event read. Cornbread Crostini with Whipped Feta, Ramp Jam, and Toasted Pine Nuts Creamed Ramp and Potato Soup with Fresh Chives and Truffle Oil Baby Kale Salad in Citrus-Ramp Vinaigrette with Mandarin Oranges, Goat Cheese, and Toasted Almonds Salmon Cake with Hominy Succotash and Dilly Ramp Crème fraîche Porchetta with House-made Ramp Tagliatelle, Roasted Asparagus, and Ramp Gremolata Strawberry Shortcake with Whipped Sweet Cream

This was a really thoughtful meal with some creative flavors.

As I continue to try every coffee roaster in the state, I learned of one new one to add to my list: Cherry River Roasting.

Based in Richwood, this coffee roaster has coffee beans in various spots around the state. I got this bag of beans at Appalachian Coffee House in Princeton.

One of the absolute coolest places I've been to in West Virginia is in Richwood.



Whistle Punk Grill & Taphouse looks like it was plucked from a super hip and trendy neighborhood and plopped in downtown Richwood.



There's some really cool outdoor dining with adorable lighting. And there's beautiful decor inside that makes it feel edgy, yet warm.



The menu has so many delicious items, I struggled to choose.



Ultimately, I went with the gnocchi with grilled pork - pan-fried gnocchi, topped with sauteed spinach and gorgonzola cream sauce served with a grilled pork tenderloin.




Just... wow.



To top it all off, the sweet owner came and chatted with me about the restaurant. I mentioned how I've always wanted to be in the Cherry River Navy (I discovered this from another friend thought it was fate because we have the same initials), and she was an admiral!! She literally arranged paperwork for me right then and there, got me sworn in and even got me official t-shirts. I cannot say enough amazing things about this restaurant, these people and this sense of community. I can't wait to go back!

I didn't know about ramps, really, until I moved to Charleston. There, I learned their appeal to natives and even had my first ramp.

Afton and I headed to Richwood to experience the Feast of the Ramson in the ramps capital of the country: Richwood, W.Va. That will be a separate post, but while in town, we figured we'd check out a local restaurant. Local Twitter troll @ASourAppleTree recommended Mumsey's Iron Skillet.

It's a cute restaurant with lots of cast-iron skillets and tools on the walls. Bright red walls and chairs. And a dessert case to die for.

I was told their burger was the way to go, so I ordered their cheeseburger for $4.59. No fries or sides because my eye was already on dessert.


This was, by all accounts, a pretty good burger. It was pretty big, a little loppy - which says homemade to me - and juicy. A pretty solid burger all around - and a sesame seed bun! Who doesn't love that?








Dessert, though.

I got a pineapple piece of cake. I don't really know why. It just looked so.. huge. And delicious. It was. Moist and a ton of sugary icing. Layers of cake were lined with pineapple bits and cream. Delish.
