Big Red's Shanty Burgers & Dogs has moved into a larger location on Fort Pierpont Road.

The restaurant focuses on burgers and hotdogs with a fun West Virginia flair - like the "Mothman Meatball Hoagie" and "Yeti Burger."

I went with a Lil Appalachian hot dog with chili, slaw, mustard and onions. It came chock-full of toppings - including a slightly sweet sauce.

And I went for a "Hillbilly Egg Roll" - which was a sweet and spicy slow-roasted pork.

Both super tasty. Have you ever been?

Zazzy'z is the coffee shop connected to The Balkan Bakery in my last post.

Housed in a beautiful home, this coffee shop has a few cozy rooms full of books, art and snacks.

I made my way back to the cafe area to look over the menu.

There were fresh-made muffins, quiche, cookies and more.

Looking over the case, I immediately knew what I wanted: crab quiche.

Have you ever had crab quiche? There was a literal entire layer of real crab. Just so delicious.

And a caramel frappuccino because there's nothing better than a caramel coffee milkshake.

Any chance I get to visit Lewisburg, I take it up. It's such a sweet town, and there's such good food.

One new restaurant that popped on my radar recently was The Local.

The Local is a cafe and market that features regional foods, beer and wine.

The menu for breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, a lox bagel (!!) and oatmeal.

But I was here for lunch, and I was so excited to see a version of that lox bagel on here: Smoked Atlantic Salmon BLT with lettuce, tomato, bacon, red onion, capers, herb spread on a bagel.

While waiting for my meal, I took a look around the market portion.

All kinds of local goodies!

Super fresh and a side of chips to add that extra crunch.

And, a slice of peach pecan pie.

While driving through Virginia and searching for something to satisfy my sweet tooth, my friend found the "Balkan Bakery."

What is a Balkan bakery, you ask? That was my question, too.

First of all, the Balkans are a geographic region in southeastern Europe. This region includes the countries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Greece, and Slovenia.

So this bakery features pastries from this region.

That includes things like "burek," "strudla," "kifli," "ekleri," bread and crepes.

The Balkan Bakery is actually housed in the same building as another coffee shop, Zazzy'z.

When we walked in, I first saw the menu, and I was so excited to see lots of items I've never had before.

There was baklava, strudla (streussel), ekleri (eclairs), kilfli (croissants), bombinci (truffles), palacinki (Balkan crepes), and more.


Everything looked amazing.

I ended up trying a spinach and feta burek, which is a filo dough puffed pastry stuffed with savory ingredients.

And, I got a peanut butter balklava - which was easily the best baklava I've ever had. And it was all rolled and syrupy and amazing.

The Yellow Jacket - Sweets and Eats is home to what's known as "Freak Shakes."

This restaurant serves up sandwiches, pepperoni rolls, hot dogs - and their famous shakes in Williamstown.

They have homemade pepperoni rolls, so I had to try one. I ordered mine with marinara sauce and cheese.

They have thick, triangular sticks in the buns, split open and topped with sauce and cheese - very Fairmont-esque.

And, I had to get a s'more "Freak Shake." Not only is it a tall milkshake, but it's then topped with just a ball of ice cream and THEN all the toppings. Just to get to the milkshake is a feat.

But quite a tasty meal.
