My friend Leah and I went to Sip & Savor - a bourbon & bites bash, which is a fundraiser for The Clay Center.
The event paired bites with sips of bourbon. For $55, we got six tickets. Each ticket was good for one pairing.
Here’s what we had:
Virgil Kaine Low Country Whiskey Co - Ginger infused bourbon with smoked chicken wing with peach habanero bbq sauce
Redemption Rye Whiskey - high rye bourbon with mini shepherd’s pies: ground lamb, whipped potatoes, mirepoix, natural jus
Woodford Reserve - reserve straight malt with salted caramel pretzel donut.
Woodford Reserve also did a cool tasting station meant to bring out flavors of bourbon where we tried cheese, nuts, cherries, chocolate, sorghum
Basil Hayden - bourbon with mac & cheese bite
Jack Daniels - Gentleman Jack with mini milk chocolate cupcake with peanut butter center, topped with peanut butter cream cheese frosting, drizzled in milk chocolate ganache, garnished with chocolate and peanut butter shavings
Jack Daniels also had a VR of their tasting room.
There were 7 stations downstairs and we only had six pairing tickets. So we ended up getting three more for $20 where we could get the last station and a cocktail.
There was also an old fashioned bar.
I had never made an old fashioned - or maybe even had one - so this was exciting. Luckily, there was a bartender in line with us and she provided me with some guidance. I put some sugar cubes, some brown sugar, cherry bitters, a cherry and an orange.
Look how good I did!
There were food trucks outside, including Eggs Will Roll!
Leah tried a loaded potato one!
