Huntington has the most Tudor's Biscuit World locations of any town that I know. There are a handful in the city, plus some in the outlying areas.
The location on US 60 looks like it's one of the older locations, with a more muted color palette. Nonetheless, the line was wrapped around the building and onto the road.
The Mountaineer is country ham, egg, hash brown and cheese. I wasn't quite sure what country ham is - and I know they have classic and shaved - but I went for it. Country ham is apparently more like a slab of ham, with which you get the fatty pieces around the edge. I did love how crispy this hashbrown was, though. It makes the sandwich.
Not a bad biscuit, but I think it would be better with their shaved ham.

No. 1 Kitchen Chinese Restaurant in Huntington along US 60 is one of the few traditionally Chinese restaurants open in the Kanawha Valley area during quarantine.
And as one that I've never tried before, I thought it was a great time to get out of the house for a minute, support a local business and do so while socially distant. Their system was one of the most interesting - I called in an order, when I got to the restaurant, I wrote down my phone number on a piece of paper and put it in a box outside the restaurant. Occasionally, they would fish the papers out of the box to see who was waiting and would then call a name out and bring the food.
So, my haul was honey chicken - sweet, white meat chicken. This is a classic for that sweet and tangy flavor. Then the garlic shrimp with veggies gives me a bit of heat plus some fresh veggies that I love.
Then steamed dumplings. I think these were my favorite part because there is something comforting about a dumpling - whatever form it may be in.
Plus shrimp rolls and crab rangoons. Both were OK
One thing I really did like about this restaurant is that the portions were small (and cheap), so getting a few different things was no problem - which is exactly how I love to order!

The owners of Bridge Road Bistro in Charleston have begun a new venture in Huntington: Sunset Grill. The restaurant sources a lot of its ingredients locally. And, they also serve as a live music venue.
Dawn and I made our way here to try it out, and it just so happened to be on Valentine's Day. Don't worry, we split the check.
We started with some bread, which looked pretty good. I think it would be even better warm.
For my main dish, I went with the Bay Scallops, with roasted garlic butter, lemon parsley and red onion, heirloom carrots and I subbed in creamy parmesan polenta (which sounded more exciting to me than almond rice pilaf).
These were little guys, but they were tasty. There was a nice crisp and bits of crunchy garlic so it had some nice texture variation to go with the soft scallops. The polenta was tasty too. All in all, a good meal.

We're finishing up the Sam's Hot Dog tour in West Virginia. I have just a few left, and Huntington was up next.
The hot dogs are already great - we know that. And this spot had a bit more of an expanded menu. So I wanted to try something else. Something that still shows off their chili sauce. Taco In a Bag it is. I don't know the last time I had one of these, but something about the combination of Fritos, chili, sour cream, jalapeños and onions was magic in my mouth.

Davis' Place is more of a bar than grill, in my opinion, but nonetheless, I've heard good things about the food so when I found myself in Huntington recently, I put in a to-go order.
The menu has fried appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches and wraps.
Because it's a bar, I figured wings would be a great way to go. So I ordered boneless BBQ, as well as an order of "fried cheese" - but that has now been replaced with regular mozzarella sticks.
The wings were okay. The sauce didn't have enough flavor for my liking - but not bad. The mozzarella sticks were okay, too. Package marinara and standard taste.

1010 Coffee Shop is located inside Huntington Cycle & Sport. They have limited hours, so I've struggled to make it here while they're open - until recently!
The inside is not huge, but it's decked out with bikes and a small coffee counter to the left. The menu features basics like coffee, tea, latte, espresso shot and then you can make your own flavors with syrups.
So, I kept it simple with a caramel latte, which was heavier on the caramel side - which I love. Perfect and such great, kind folks at this place.

Highway 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries is a fast-casual restaurant that has two locations in West Virginia: Huntington and Barboursville.
The 1950s-themed restaurant is decked out in baby blue and hot pink. There are some neon lights and memorabilia on the walls.
The menu has burgers, of course, so I looked through to pick out one of the restaurant's namesakes.
John Boy & Billy BBQ Bacon Burger: Served with your choice of American, provolone or pepper jack cheese, mustard chili, bacon, a crispy onion ring, and tangy John Boy and Billy's Grillin' Sauce.
The burger was good. The tater tots were good. I even got a strawberry milkshake, and it was good. Unfortunately, the service was some of the worst I've ever had. It was clear the server was having some issues... stumbling into tables, fighting with the cook, and making me question my overall choice to be here. Maybe the Barboursville location will be better.

Charlie Graingers is a small chain located in North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina - and one in Huntington.
They are known for their hot dogs, as well as brisket and BBQ. So I made my way to downtown Huntington to check it out.
They have a bunch of different kinds, but I went with the "RAY'S WAY" - Housemade Pimento Cheese and Chili Charlie's Way.
The bun was pretty big and fluffy, but the chili had some depth and smokey flavor, and the pimento cheese paired perfectly. A pretty tasty dog overall.

Down Home Salads in Huntington is less about fresh salads and more about a prepared salad - think pasta salads, potato salad, etc.
Located in Huntington, Down Home Salads is a shop that serves up those salads, as well as pickles, jams and peppers.
So I pulled up and walked in. Music was blaring but no one was around. A few moments later, a kid came running to the front and turned the music off. I looked at the shelves - and they are a bit haphazardly filled.
Some are full of product, others have different labels, and others looked not totally full.
But I searched through to find some neat options: caramelized paw paw jam with bourbon and then these candied banana peppers.
It looks like they have a good variety to choose from if you order in advance.
But on the day of, they had coleslaw, potato salad and pasta salad in bags in the refrigerator.
They were mostly these giant bags, so I asked if I could get some in a smaller quantity - like 1 lb.
Fortunately, they can. So I ordered a 1 lb. container of the rotini pasta salad.
And, I like my pasta salad on the zesty side so I added some more Italian dressing.
What's your favorite thing from here?
I think that paw paw jam could make for a delicious dessert.
And I'm told their cole slaw is sold to some of the local hot dog joints, so that might be one to try in the future!
