Chief's Roadhouse reminds me of a Logan's Roadhouse, but instead of Chief's being a chain, it is local to Logan. Kind of ironic, right? It would make sense to have a Logan's IN Logan, but alas. We have Chief's.



Clad in wooden decor and serving up hearty steak and potatoes, Chief's is a family-friendly restaurant with homestyle favorites.



My meal-to-go began with bread and butter. It was not especially remarkable, but I do enjoy the complimentary items to round out the meal.



For my sides, I had macaroni & cheese and green beans. The mac & cheese lost its cheese at some point. The sauce must have been thin because it did not cling to the noodles. Just not a ton of flavor without it. The green beans were bathed in a nice salty fat that all southern dishes need.



The meatloaf was the main entree, and it had a good blend of spices. I could always use a thicker slathering of tomato sauce, especially when the meat itself is thick. Maybe they could layer meat and sauce like a cake so there is always a perfect ratio.



Grade: B

Yamato Japanese Steakhouse in Logan is pretty standard in terms of small-town hibachi restaurants. They have a teppanyaki grill, an assortment of specialty sushi rolls and a host of other generally Asian dishes to please the whole crowd.



They have "Louisiana Seafood Platters" and poke bowls and ramen and bento boxes. I ordered the crab rangoons - a bit too sweet and a bit too cool.



The steak hibachi meal was ol' reliable, though it didn't have the much-needed teriyaki and yum-yum sauce. We also tried the Volcano Roll - Shrimp tempura, cream cheese topped w. spicy crab meat and tempura flake, spicy mayo, eel sauce. This wasn't bad, but the sauces were too much and took over the flavor.



Grade: B

Have ice cream, will travel. I love some good ice cream, so any time I see a dairy bar, I am inclined to check it out. Such is the case with Dairy Delite in Logan. It's like a local version of Dairy Queen, complete with their own version of blizzards.



My once-in-a-blue-moon treat is a peanut buster parfait, so I went for a peanut fudge "Polar Pete," which has some savory peanut butter and sweet ice cream for a delicious, classic combo. Yes, all day every day.



Grade: A

Spaghetti. It's in the name of Gino's Spaghetti & Pizza House, but it's not one that I typically order. In fact, spaghetti is probably my least favorite pasta because I like more pasta to sauce ratio. BUT, sometimes it hits the spot.



When at the Logan Gino's location, I went for spaghetti with meat sauce. I was happy to see mushrooms, but was surprised to see ... meatballs cut in half as the "meat" sauce. I ended up moving those to the side, and the marinara was decent on its own. 



Very decent meal that was tasty, if not a bit odd.

Let's check out another Tudor's Biscuit World location, shall we? We're heading to Logan today.



The drive thru has been open during the covid19 epidemic, so I got in line and waited for my turn. Looking over the menu, I can see I've made good progress on the named biscuits. Next up: The Tootie. 



The Tootie has country ham, egg and cheese. From what I see, it appears that Tudor's actually has about three types of ham - country, shaved and classic. The shaved has the sort of very thin ham you'd get in a ham & cheese sandwich from a deli. This country ham is more of a slab that is fried and has bits of fat on it. I think the better option is shaved. That is, until I try classic.

Grade: B

Chief Logan is one of the largest state parks and has its own restaurant.

So while in the area, I was excited to try it out.

The Whispering Ridge Dining Room has a buffet, but I was interested in trying it out.


I went for the meatloaf, which came in two individual loaves, with mac & cheese and a baked potato.

317 Steakhouse is located in downtown Logan and is a welcome restaurant to the area.



It's a bit darker inside, but a large space with lots of room.



The menu has some yummy sounding appetizers like stuffed banana peppers and shrimp cocktail.



I couldn't not order a steak at a steakhouse, though.



The bread was warm and I drenched mine in butter.

My friend Kayla is from the Logan area and swore by this pimento cheese spread (and ham salad spread) from the local Valley Market. Definitely a local secret!

Logan has a pretty cool little arts/food scene between Hot Cup Coffee and this bakery - Nu Era Bakery.

Nu Era Bakery is known for their pepperoni rolls, but sadly there weren't available when I went. Instead, I stuffed myself with delicious pastries.



This shop is long and narrow, with a wrap-around case that has all kinds of tasty items - donuts, cookies, cheesecake, pastries and so much more.

Quite a few tables fill the inside of the space, and there's an giant, antique mixer near the front of the store as well as photos and small decor.

Located in Logan, West Virginia, Nu-Era Bakery was established in 1940.  Currently owned and operated by Logan natives Libby and Larry Albright, the bakery still uses the original recipes brought over from Italy in 1920 by the Comoretto family.  Our items are prepared from scratch daily and made to order (ABOUT). 

After taking a look around, I got a jelly-filled donut, potato candy, their specialty pastry which has chocolate icing and white cream "Bismarck", a little mini pecan pie, and a red velvet whoopie pie. I had to hit a certain minimum to use my card, so more pastries for me!

And, of course, they were all delish! My favorites were the jelly-filled donut (because mmmm), and the potato candy. The lady behind the counter thought I was insane when I asked what potato candy was, but the peanut buttery treat was phenomenal.

Outside of Hot Cup Coffee in Logan, you'll see a shopping cart halfway lodged into into a pole, and, inside, there are even more hidden secrets.

Hot Cup Coffee is really a cool place. when I walked in, I noticed everything was dark red, nice wooden floors and bits of art all over the wall. It is a large space with a lounge feel, and in the back, there is an ode to movies and a hidden Harry Potter room. Very neat.

True Gourmet Coffee & Pastries like Logan has never experienced before.

And, going in line with the Harry Potter theme, this shop has some really delicious coffees - including "Butter Beer," which I had to try out. Other coffees included flavors like White Caramel, White Zombie, Truffle Shuffle, Snickers Bar, plus cappuccino, frappe, mocha, real hot chocolates and more.

And because I was a bit hungry, I also ordered their "Pizza Pretzel."

THE PIZZA PRETZEL - $3.00. You know those really big, really soft pretzels that everyone loves? What if I told you that we took one of those & crammed it full of Pizza Sauce & topped it with a bit of Mozzarella Cheese? Sound good? We thought so. It’s waiting on you now, only at HOT CUP!

So, the "Butter Beer" is just out of this world. It was sweet, rich, butterscotchy and just amazing. I wish this existed in Morgantown because I may have it every day.

The pizza pretzel could not compare to the deliciousness of the beverage; next time, I think I'll pair a pastry with that perfect drink.
