Martinsburg has a number of really charming restaurants, and The Peppermill is no exception. Set in an elegant home, this restaurant has fine dining on the first floor and more casual upstairs.

White tablecloths, lampshades, candles and accents made everything feel light and crisp. The lunch menu featured soups, salads, and sandwiches.

Something I found really sweet is they bring a little stool for your purse!

For my meal, I went with a cheeseburger: double patty, American cheese, smoked cheddar cheese, bacon spread, mustard greens and caramelized alliums. Plus a side of a fresh, citrusy salad. Wow.

Latte Da Cupcakery is a specialty bakery in Martinsburg that serves up deliciously unique cupcakes.



Flavors like vanilla creme, red velvet, cookies & cream, and chocolate peanut butter are available daily. Plus, there are flavors of the month.



Which is your favorite?

One of the first stops in any new city is a coffee shop.

Coffee gives you that energy to explore and prep for the day.

Martinsburg's Daily Grind is located in a shopping area, so lots of parking.



There's a ton of seating, so I can definitely see folks having a leisurely cuppa here.


The coffee menu features tons of specialty espresso drinks.

And, they have breakfast items, too, like sandwiches. Plus salads and wraps for lunch.

And baked goods.


Even bagels!





And, by evening, you can create your own six-pack with craft beer.




But, I just got a quick drink to go.



Creamy Caramel Signature Specialty Espresso - caramel, vanilla and whipped topping.

Holl's Chocolates are some of my favorite sweets.

The local chocolatier makes these specialty chocolate dipped strawberries just one time of year: April 1 to July 4.

They are dipped in white fondant followed by dark chocolate, making a deliciously sweet treat.

They are dipped daily and can be found at the Capitol Market on Tuesdays and Fridays. And, they're best if eaten the same day. Otherwise, keep them in the fridge and eat them ASAP. Have you tried them?

Martinsburg recently hosted their Chocolate Fest & Book Faire, which showcases authors and downtown businesses. And a side of chocolate.  

Because my job is pretty cool, I was able to go check it out.

One of my first stops was a tour of DeFluri's Fine Chocolates.


I've been to this shop before but not in the factory, so that was fun.

We got to see chocolates being made from start to finish.

DeFluri's had a mint truffle.

And I snagged chocolates at each spot I went to.

There are so many cool little spots - like this drug store.


Which had delicious deconstructed s'mores.


And these yummy chocolates at the local book store.



While in town, I got to explore a bit.



Like this beautiful glass shop.


And a puppet theater.


And the Roundhouse, which I finally got to take a tour of!



It is not only a really cool, unique architectural piece.


It also earned a spot in history by making railroad "frogs," which help direct one set of train tracks to another.

And, they have this giant apple time capsule.
