Asahi Fusion

Asahi Fusion is a new Asian restaurant in Morgantown that runs the gamut of offerings: sushi, poke, ramen, curry, lo mein, hibachi and more.

I can appreciate the variety and what it offers for diverse groups, but I think it makes folks wonder if any one particular cuisine is the specialty. Or is everything just OK because they are spreading themselves too thin? I don't think you have to pigeonhole yourself into one specific cuisine. I think chefs have the capability of mastering more than one cuisine, but I do think that this strategy enforces the expectation that people think all Asian cuisines are the same or diminishes the individual qualities of those cuisines.

Either way, I wanted to try a few different things so that I could get a feel for the menu. The salad is pretty standard for this type of setting, which is mostly just iceberg lettuce and a ginger dressing. Plus, there was a miso soup that was simple but warming.

The lo mein was basic, but fine. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but nothing that took away from it either. Some nice chewy noodles with a mild flavor.

I ordered the beef Bulgogi, which I was very excited to try, because I don't see it everywhere. But this was far more dry than what I'm used to.

Finally, I tried a fruit sushi roll, which was fun and more of a novelty item, as opposed to some thing that I may order again. Overall, not bad, but I'm gonna need another trip to work my way through the menu.
